Sustainable Living Library feature

Sustainable Living Library   Sat 20th February 1.00 pm - 5.00 pm

The Sustainable Living Library aims to inspire and spread knowledge of sustainable practices and lifestyle choices to our ‘readers’. The books in the Sustainable Living Library are people, or Living Books, with a strong commitment to sustainability and our environment  A Living Book can be ‘borrowed’ for an informal, one on one, 20 minute conversation, giving the 'reader' an exclusive opportunity to learn more about their skills, knowledge and experiences.

Book your ticket to one of our Living Books:

Patrick Hearps : A 100% renewable electricity grid by 2020 – How can we do it?
The climate science is clear that there is already too much carbon in the atmosphere. This means that we need to go to zero emissions and sequester the excess carbon as soon as possible. But how do we do it? Pat is the project manager for Zero Carbon Australia 2020 – a research project run by Beyond Zero Emissions which is developing a costed transition plan for reaching a zero emissions economy by 2020. Pat is happy to share his truly visionary, cutting-edge research and tell his readers how to reach zero emissions in Australia.
Session Times: 1.00pm, 1.30pm, 2.00pm, 2.30pm

Chris Ward : Living sustainably within the restrictions of rental property
Chris Ward from Green Renters is a friendly and accessible expert in how to live sustainably within the restrictions of rental property. Book a session with Chris and learn practical, easy, time and cost effective tips on how to green your rental property!
Session Times: 1.00pm, 1.30pm, 2.00pm, 2.30pm

Rosy Strong : The joy of everyday bike riding
Many people know how to ride a bike, but they may feel uncomfortable on their bike, may be afraid
to ride in traffic or just don’t dig the whole helmet hair and fluoro lycra thing. Rosy Strong from Bikes@Work is keen to talk to you about choosing the right bicycle and accessories for your needs, building skills and confidence in traffic and how to keep your friends when you’ve become a bike obsessed nut.
Session Times: 1.00pm, 1.30pm, 2.00pm, 2.30pm

Giselle Wilkinson : My strategy for mobilising communities to restore a safe environment

Giselle Wilkinson has been a social and environmental activist for over thirty years. Her recent book ‘The Conscious Cook’ is just one of many good examples of her ways to help catalyse change and stimulate and empower others to engage. Take the opportunity to sit down with one of the founders of the Sustainable Living Foundation –  the community-based not for profit organisation behind this festival – for an inspiring conversation about her strategies for mobilising communities to restore a safe environment.

Session Times: 1.00pm, 1.30pm, 2.00pm, 2.30pm

Sue Benn : You, too, can instigate change in your workplace

As a Health Professional, Sue Benn felt environmental issues and the possible impacts of climate change overlapped with the community health focus of her organisation. Sue proposed that the organisation
required a Sustainability Working Group to review their own work practices and to look at the issues facing their client community. She obtained approval from all levels of management for this idea to go ahead, and is now is working together with a small group of enthusiastic colleagues to methodically to make significant changes.
Book a session with Sue to learn about her expiriences and be inspired to initiate a positive change in your own workplace, by learning how simple it can be to decrease the organisation’s waste, power usage, and overall carbon emissions.

Session Times: 1.00pm, 1.30pm, 2.00pm, 2.30pm
